Most of us have had a glass of pomegranate juice or tried a pomegranate seed by now. It rose in popularity in recent years and has been steadily popular ever since.
But did you know that it’s also known to be a fertility super food?
It’s packed with vitamins and minerals and is a potent antioxidant, all of which are important in your fertility health. The pomegranate has been long revered as a symbol of fertility and general health. Long before we even knew exactly what made this fruit so wonderful, it was being used for a variety of medicinal uses.
So what exactly does it contain that makes it so amazing?
Pomegranates are packed with vitamin A, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin E, fiber, folic acid and magnesium.
It’s thought that the combination of these and other components found in pomegranates are helpful in balancing estrogen and progesterone levels. It can also help with a healthy sex drive, which can naturally be depleted from the baby-making process alone. Lastly, and maybe most importantly, it’s been known to increase blood flow to the uterus. This is important in making a thicker linking, one that can support a healthy pregnancy.
Most women drink 1 full 8-ounce glass a day to reap the benefits.
Be aware that some juices contain a good amount of sugar. It is naturally sweet, however it’s important to make sure that if you’re drinking pomegranate juice, you make sure you’re buying 100% pomegranate juice. A lot of juices offered contain added sugars.
100% pomegranate juice is actually known to help stabilize blood sugar levels…I know, surprising!
Even the type I buy, which is 100% pure pomegranate juice, is very sweet for me. I have PCOS, so I have worked hard to reduce my sugar intake (which is a good idea for anyone in general, especially those with fertility issues). Even 100% pure pomegranate juice tastes too sweet for me, so I dilute it with water (I prefer the taste this way) and drink half of a glass in the morning and half of a glass in the evening.
It may surprise some, but certain foods can interact poorly with some medications. Pomegranates may be one of them, as they are also known to possibly interact with medications like blood thinners as well as drugs used for high blood pressure and cholesterol.
Overall, it’s a pretty amazing fruit that has more benefits in overall health than what I can list here.
It’s in season around the winter months, so indulge in the real fruit when you can!
