Salt is considered a cost-effective natural home remedy for pregnancy testing. When used as a home remedy, salt helps one to discretely find out if they are pregnant or not. It is believed that HCG hormone when mixed with salt tends to form a chemical reaction. The results of the chemical reaction can either lead to a positive or negative pregnancy test.
In this article, you are going to learn how to do a homemade pregnancy test with salt. You will also gain insight on whether salt pregnancy test really works, and if it is a homemade pregnancy test that you can rely on.

Salt Pregnancy Test
What you need
1 tablespoon of salt
½ cup of urine
A plastic container
- Ensure that you use the first urine of the day
- In a plastic container, mix the urine with 1 tablespoon of salt and wait for at least 5 minutes
- Examine if the urine and salt mixture has changed in any way.
If after the 5 minutes you realize that the salt and urine mixture has turned into a milky and cheesy solution, it means your pregnancy test is positive. When the HCG hormone reacts with the salt, it causes it to clump. On the other hand, if the mixture does nothing, it means that your test result is negative.
Does Salt Pregnancy Test Actually Work?
Salt is considered a more cost-effective method of knowing whether one is carrying a baby because not all women can afford the money required to buy an over the counter pregnancy strip. If you have not used salt to test for pregnancy, you must be wondering if it really works. Well, salt pregnancy test seems to be trending across the web, and from the reviews that I have read, some women claim that indeed the salt pregnancy test has given them positive results.
It is believed that if you mix urine and salt on the fifth day past ovulation and the urine becomes cheese like, then you are pregnant. If it does not change in any way, then you are not pregnant. Well, it may not be a very accurate method, but it wouldn’t hurt to try it out. In addition, doing a confirmatory test with drugstore tests would be far preferable and certainly more reliable.
How Reliable is Salt Pregnancy Test
Using salt to test whether you are pregnant cannot be considered 100% accurate. Even as you consider doing a homemade pregnancy test with salt, it is important to note that the salt pregnancy test has not been approved by professionals and hospitals as a reliable method. In fact, some doctors believe that besides HCG, the body never secretes anything in the urine that can be used as an indication that you are actually having a baby. What’s more, it is believed that if the salt test does not specifically measure HCG, then it is not going to prove whether you are pregnant or not. Therefore, for more accurate results and peace of mind, it is advisable that you make use of a drugstore test.
Though a homemade pregnancy test with salt is a cost-effective and a natural method of finding out if you’re pregnant, it cannot be considered to be a 100% accurate. On the other hand, unlike drugstore tests, it is very hard to ascertain if indeed you are pregnant because, with salt, no pregnancy test mark is visible.
